Govilon - 5
GOVILON returned to winning ways with a comprehensive rout of Gwent County division one strugglers Cwmffrwdoer.
Lewis Meadows opened the scoring for Govilon after eight minutes when he swept home a cross from the right leaving `Doer keeper Gethin Lear with no chance as the ball nestled in the corner of his net.
Both Rhys Whiteman and Craig Norman tested Lear who was undone again on the quarter hour mark when the ball fell to the feet of Leon Gilchrist who spotted that Lear was stranded and cleverly chipped into an empty net.
Cwmffrwdoer almost reduced arrears when striking the bar with a headed effort from a corner, but at the other end were indebted to Deri King for his goal line clearance from a Govilon strike.
Govilon continued to press and Lear saved well from a Gilchrist solo run and Lewis Meadows had another goal bound effort blocked after Cwmffrwdoer had a vociferous appeal for a penalty waved away by Abergavenny referee Steve Williams, as the score remained 0-2 at half time.
At the restart Govilon went further ahead in the first minute when Matthew Stephens burst forward on a right wing run and crossed for Gilchrist to get his second of the match.
Stephens himself almost got on the scoresheet when his headed effort produced the save of the match from Lear.
However, when Jamie Laurent received the ball from a short corner and let fly with a left footed blast he could do little as the ball flew into his top right corner.
Gilchrist then grabbed the final goal of his hat-trick when Stephen Lane, Govilon's import from Hellenic League side Lydney Town set him free on the left and he cut inside to slot past Lear.
On Saturday Govilon entertain Newport based Spencer Youth with the match kicking off at 3.00pm.
