An enterprising youngster got together with her grandparents to come up with a way of raising funds for NHS staff.
Five-year-old Olivia Isaac loves visiting her grandparents who live in the country as she enjoys the change of scene now lockdown restrictions are easing.
Proud mum Gemma Issac acknowledged that lockdown has been such a difficult time for everyone, especially for children, losing their routine, and missing all their friends and the structure that school offers
Said Gemma: ‘‘My five-year-old daughter Olivia, loves to go and visit her grandparents, Grannie and Peeps in Cross Ash as often as she can, as everyday is different out in the country.
‘‘Between them they came up with the idea of picking the cherries from the HUGE cherry tree, setting up a little stall at the end of the road and selling a punnet for £1 with all the money made going to the NHS.
‘‘Every time Olivia visited her grandparents she helped to pick the cherries, pack them and restocked the stall.
‘‘She took great pleasure each evening of counting up the money, asking her grannie...” how much have we raised for the NHS now Grannie”.
They managed to raise £201, and went shopping and put together three hampers of goodies including a slection of f tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, sweets, chocolates, hand wash, Nivea hand cream, and a variety of other essential bits and pieces.
Together, Olivia and her Grannie delivered the three hampers to Castle Gate surgery in Monmouth, Ewyas Harold surgery in Ewyas Harold and Old Station Surgery in Abergavenny.
Old Station Surgery put a lovely post on the Abergavenny Voice Facebook page thanking Olivia and lots of peope praised the youngster for her and her grannie’s efforts in doing their bit to help local NHS staff.
Says Gemma: ‘‘In a time of such worry and fear this happy good news story has lifted people’s spirits and we wanted to share this story with your readers.’’
