Launch of the very first Tourism Awards for The Brecon Beacons

Brecon Beacons Tourism celebrates its 10th Year of trading by launching the first ever Tourism Awards! Businesses can download the application forms from Brecon Beacons Tourism’s website and have until July 1 to submit their applications.

Brecon Beacons Tourism is a business led organisation, with over 260 members, representing the tourism trade operating with the Brecon Beacons and the surrounding area. The tourism association’s membership is made up of several sectors including accommodation, activity providers, attractions, events, places to eat and retail.

Laura Thomas, Brecon Beacons Tourism Executive Director said “We are delighted that Brecon Beacons Tourism is able to launch the first ever Brecon Beacons Tourism Awards in our 10th Year of trading. We hope the awards will showcase the quality of what we have to offer here in the Brecon Beacons and surrounding area. The awards will be an opportunity for us all to celebrate the tourism industry and to highlight the outstanding quality of our vibrant tourism businesses. We hope businesses no matter size or type will get on board and support both the awards and the dinner, seeing it as an opportunity to pay tribute to those who are committed and passionate about their business, the tourism industry and the Brecon Beacons.”

There are 12 awards in total, which any tourism business operating in and around the Brecon Beacons may apply for. The awards are as follows:

The Best Large Serviced Accommodation (6 rooms or more)

The Best Small Serviced Accommodation (5 rooms or less)

The Best Self-Catering Accommodation sleeping less than 10 people

The Best Self-Catering Accommodation sleeping 10 or more people

The Best Camping, Caravan or Glamping Experience

Best Activity Provider

The Best Food Experience

Best Attraction

Community Tourism Award

Sustainable Tourism Award

Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award

Best Overall Winner

BBT are thrilled to welcome back, Punch Maughan a familiar face too many as the founding executive director to help coordinate and run the awards for Brecon Beacons Tourism in 2016.

The awards are being supported by sponsors for the different award categories from the private and public sector – sponsors so far include Pear Communications, Brecon Beacons Holiday Cottages, GroupAccommodation, The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, Powys County Council and The Neath Port Talbot College Group. Other local businesses are lending their support in different ways to this prestigious event.

The short listed businesses and winners will be unveiled at the Awards Gala Dinner to be held at the Manor Hotel, Crickhowell on November 10. Brecon Beacons Tourism are delighted that Tori James, the first Welsh woman to climb Everest and Visit Wales Year of Adventure Ambassador will be the guest speaker on the Awards dinner and joining the audience for the evening. Tickets for the dinner will be on sale later this year with the event open to anyone – it’s going to be a great event so make sure the date is in your diary!
