ABERGAVENNY Rugby Club will be holding their annual Festival of Rugby at Usk

Showground on May 2-3 this year.

Over the last few years the festival has grown beyond all recognition, having

become probably the biggest tournament held in South Wales for the age

groups involved.

The event moved to its new location last year having previously been

held at Raglan Sports field.

This year's event will be visited by around 175 teams from all over the South Wales area as well as visiting teams from across the border in England.

Over the two there will be matches for the Junior aged children (Under 13'

s to Under 16's) on the Saturday and on the Sunday the Mini Section (Under 8's

up to Under 12's).

In addition to this there will be a girls tournament and this year there is for the first time a Ladies Sevens event.

Matches will be starting at around 10.30am on both days and finishing between 5.00 and 6.00pm.

During the weekend there will hopefully be a visit from at least one or two

members of the Welsh National Squad, always a favourite with the children.

Last year saw Ian Gough and James Hook visit Usk on the Saturday, pictured here with Abergavenny RFC chairman Mike Aylet.

There will be ample opportunity for people to keep themselves entertained away

from the rugby as well with stalls, bouncy castles and numerous food outlets

on hand, including BBQ's, burgers, Ice Cream's and much more.
