The friends and family of a woman who died of pancreatic cancer honoured her memory by taking part in a sponsored ride.

The loved ones of Margaret ‘Mags’ Elliott (nee Holland), originally from Abergavenny, cycled from London to Paris in four days and raised more than £82,000 for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

The group met Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith and Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt recently at the Houses of Parliament, where their efforts were praised.

Margaret’s brother, James Holland said, “It seemed fitting to do something to push us to our limits. It was physically and emotionally challenging, but it was nothing in comparison with what Mags went through during the last months of her life; we felt she was with us every pedal of the way. The support we received from our friends in Abergavenny has been fantastic and we have been blown away by the generosity of everyone who supported us. ”

Alex Ford, Chief Executive at Pancreatic Cancer UK, said, “The ‘Live Life to the Mags’ team have made a truly superhuman effort to support us here at Pancreatic Cancer UK, and their fantastic achievements have surpassed all expectations.

“On behalf of everyone at the charity I would like to say an enormous thank you to the whole team, as well as say a huge congratulations.

“The funds they have raised could help provide a grant from our Research Innovation Fund, which makes the exploration of cutting edge ideas in pancreatic cancer research possible. The Fund ultimately aims to find ways of diagnosing people earlier, as well as develop better treatments.”
