A wide variety of venues have been lined up to host some fantastic events at this year’s Abergavenny Writing Festival.
From April 7 to April there will be 21 events across three days at the Kings Arms Hotel, the Melville Centre for the Arts and pop-up events at Abergavenny Library and the Wool Croft as part of the celebrations to mark Abergavenny Writing Festival.
The organisers hope to offer something for everyone, regardless of age and experience.
There’s a strong focus on writing for wellbeing and mental health this year including a session by Graham Hartill called ‘Men’s Words’ to encourage men to talk and create together in a supportive environment.
Graham will also give a talk and lead a discussion on creative writing for wellbeing.
Nicola Davies will give a talk about her latest book ‘This is How the Change Begins’ and the inspiration behind it.
The book is a collection of six poems inspired by the growing threat of climate change.
Nicola will also offer insights into her own writing process.
There will be many opportunities to participate in the writing festival with workshops including a flash fiction session with Cath Barton and Liz Aiken, a Letterpress printing workshop with Francesca Kay and a writing and making workshop at The Wool Croft with Bob Walton and Jan Thomas.
And panel discussions too on ‘how a story gets written’ and ‘working writers – can you actually make a living from writing?’
In partnership with Abergavenny Museum and their current exhibition ‘Beyond The Veil: Visions From The World Of Arthur Machen’ author Catherine Fisher will talk about Machen’s Gwent.
Natalie Jerome will talk about her love of the library and how it inspired her to pursue a career in publishing.
As a literary agent at Curtis Brown, her clients include the actor David Harewood and Sir Lenny Henry.
The finale evening ‘Saturday Night Shebang’ will begin with readings from poets Des Mannay and Lily Sequoia.
There will be an open-mic ‘TalknTales’ created by Cardiff University’s Creative Writing MA students.
And finally a performance from singer songwriter Kizzy Crawford. To book a slot for the open-mic email [email protected]
The Abergavenny Writing Festival is supported by Arts Council Wales, National Lottery Funding, Abergavenny Town Council, Abergavenny Rotary Club and Christie Residential.
