Our Lady and Saint Michael’s RC Primary School celebrated the official re-opening and completed refurbishment of the school Peace Garden on Wednesday October 20.
The Peace Garden is a reflective area where pupils and staff can reflect on learning and use the space to aid mental wellbeing, completing activities such as mindfulness and Christian meditation.
The occasion included a rededication of the area’s story tellers chair in memory of former teacher Mr Ian Williamson.
Local Parish priest, Father Matthew Carney, performed a blessing and prayers were said in memory of Mr Williamson and for the beneficial use of the space for children in the present and future. The late Mr Williamson’s family were able to attend, as well as staff past and present.
Staff will restart using the space after the autumn half term break to support pupils learning.
Headteacher Viv Evans said: “An enormous thanks goes to the school PTA for organising the renewal of the garden, replacement of the garden pergola, removal of weeds, relaying of the path and replanting of a selection of plants. “
