Spencer Youth and Boys - 1
Govilon - 4
GOVILON got off to a flyer against a very strong Spencer team who didn't play like a team that is rooted to the bottom of Gwent County Division One.
Ten minutes in and Ashley Palmer scored a 20 yard bullet. Spencer then proceeded to throw everything they had at Govilon, who worked very hard at neutralising the home team's threat.
Just before half time Govilon pounced again when Ashley Palmer made a bursting run down the wing and his cross was handled by one of the Spencer defenders to give Govilon a penalty.
Dean Morgan coolly slotted home to give his team a 2-0 lead.
Into the second-half and Govilon started applying the pressure and were rewarded with another penalty when a blistering shot by Craig Norman was saved by the full back's hands, resulting in a straight red.
Again Dean Morgan stepped up to the plate to score his second and Govilon's third.
Spencer pulled a goal back immediately when good midfield play resulted in a chip over the Govion keeper's head.
Govilon pressed again and with 10 minutes remaining Dean Morgan hit a well taken cross from Palmer, to seal his second hat trick in as many weeks and fourteenth league goal to date.
Blaenavon Blues - 2
PILCS - 3
THE Blues difficult season continued with a home defeat against fellow strugglers PILCS.
The game started brightly for the Blues, with midfielder Jamie Brankley applying a clinical finish to a fine move.
PILCS's Richard Jeremiah put his side on level terms from a suspiciously looking offside position, and minutes later Luke Harris put the visitors 1-2 up.
Harris and Jeremiah caused havoc in the Blues defence. In fact, far too many of the Blues defenders were guilty of ball watching, a habit they must quickly address unless they will spend a second consecutive season in a relegation dog fight.
With half time approaching, good work on the left flank by Tanner and Waite saw Lloyd Jeffries score an excellent goal to pull the scores level.
The second half was a very open game. Josh Bull on as a substitute broke through but his shot was wide. Ryan Simons put over a great cross, and Bull's header was tipped brilliantly over by Mackerness in the PILCS goal.
A clever move involving Tanner, Bull and White saw Mackerness again make a great save from White. With time running out Daniel Ronan hit the Blues bar, then almost immediately Harris hit the post with Blues keeper Rowland well beaten. With time running out P.I.L.C.S. wrapped up the three points when Harris provided the cross for Jeremiah to score with a text book header.
Next week Blues face a difficult away trip to Abertillery Excelsiors.
Meanwhile in Gwent County Division Three, the Abergavenny Thursday held Pontypool Town to a 1-1 draw.
