BURGLARS broke into a veterinary surgery and stole drugs, needles and money.

Police are appealing for information following the break-in at Riverside Veterinary Surgery, Brecon Road, Abergavenny, on Friday, January 2.

Practice manager Lynda Statham said thieves had taken a quantity of animal drugs, including pain killers, anti-inflammatories and a quantity of Euthatal, blue in colour and used to destroy animals.

She said, "They took all the injectable drugs and bottles, a handful of leads, cash and broke the window and door. We were just lucky that there wasn't too much mess and we could open up after collecting drugs from our Ebbw Vale practice."

Lynda warned anyone who may come into contact with the drugs not to use them, "They are animal drugs and should in no way be used by any human," she said.

The drugs were valued at least £1,000 and anyone with information is asked to contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
