A motorist who died after a serious single-vehicle crash on the A40 near Abergavenny, has been named as 65 year old Robert Watkins from the Abergavenny area.His family have released the following tribute saying he was a much loved family man who lived for farming and his children. Known to all as ‘Spuddy’ Mr Watkins’ loss has left his family and friends heartbroken.Officers are requesting any motorists using the road between 1am and 1.55am to please check any dash cam footage that may provide further information that will assist officers with their enquiries.Anyone with any information or anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Gwent Police on 101 or Direct Message us on Facebook or Twitter, quoting log 40 24/07/19. Gwent Police were called at 1.55 am Wednesday morning following reports of a collision on the A40 between Abergavenny and Glangrwyney, on the Brecon Road.
Sadly, the driver of a black Range Rover Discovery was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police officers, alongside Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene.
Police have asked for any motorists who used the road between 1am and 1.55am to please check any dashcam footage that may provide further information that will assist officers with their enquiries.
Anyone with any information or anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urger to contact Gwent Police on 101.
The road has recently reopened but remains congested.
Gwent Police are advising motorists intending on using the road to travel to / from The Royal Welsh Show, to take the A4077 Gilwern junction or use the Heads of the Valley Road.
