THIS year's World Trade Fair, which takes place on Sunday, October 5 between 10am and 5pm may be a load of old pants but it's not something to get your knickers in a twist about.
The big attraction at the Fair in Market Hall, Abergavenny will be 'Pants to Poverty' a chance for people to take part in the pants 'amnesty.'
Organiser David Holman said, "Bring along your old underwear and they will freeze them in liquid nitrogen. You will then be able to smash them with a hammer and can buy a brand new pair of Fairtrade pants!"
Pants to Poverty will also be running a Fairtrade fashion show, to display their products. Legendary singer/songwriter Linda Lewis will also perform on the day.
Linda, who had huge success in the 70's and 80's with hits such as - Rock a doodle do and Reach for the truth feels happy to be able to support the event run by local couple, David and Martha Holman.
The profits from the event will go towards drilling a bore hole in a rural area of Zimbabwe. This year will be be a big celebration of Wales becoming the first Fairtrade nation in the world. Stalls include - Fairtrade Abergavenny & Crickhowell, Love Zimbabwe, Drums for Schools, Bag-Age, Essential Trading, Yakanaka, Goodies from the Gambia, Biltong 2 U, Hempish, Tropical Forest, Fair Grounds, Wales Co-op, Shared Interest, Fair Connections, Yirgacheffe, and Zimele. Charity stalls include - Tools for self reliance, Oxfam, VSO, Friends of the Earth, Send a cow, and Operation Noah.
There will be African dancing, drumming and food all day with a special appearance from Abercapella.
Children from Cantref Primary will be performing their amazing African dance so successfully performed at the Food Festival this year. There will also be face painting for the younger crowd. The event will be opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Abergavenny, and the opening speech will be by Councillor Martin Hickman. A speech of welcome will also be undertaken by special guest Linda Lewis.
A Fairtrade certificate for the Greyhound Vaults will also be presented by the Mayor.
