Alison Platt woke up early one morning with a flash of inspiration.

She’d been sorting out the wardrobes in the family’s home in Abergavenny, to make way for new clothes and Christmas presents, and had come across three coats and numerous nearly-new sweatshirts in her daughter’s room.

“It occurred to me that many other households are doing the same thing - just storing lovely warm coats and other clothes they no longer want and I thought it would be nice if we could collect all this clean, unwanted clothing and give it away to people in the local community who maybe need a little extra help,” she said.

Alison soon discovered that churches and other local organisations would be happy to help.

A free event to distribute the donated clothes has now been arranged at the Labour Club in Park Crescent, Abergavenny on Friday January 22 (11am to 4pm).

Warm winter clothing of any size - hats, scarves, coats, boots, gloves, sweatshirts and jumpers - is still needed.

Please take your items, which must be clean and in good condition, to Yankee Sandwich, Abergavenny Market (Saturday) or His and Hers Hair Salon, 52a Cross Street or Llanfoist Primary School (weekdays).

You can also take clothes to collection points at St Faith’s Church Hall, Llanfoist and Oakwood Kitchens, Unit 22, Pen-y-Fan Industrial Estate, Croespenmaen, Crumlin and Penpergwm House, The Bryn, Penpergwm.
