THIS 'mini mountain' of dog waste is the setting that welcomes people to Abergavenny.

The Chronicle has received dozens of complaints about the ever-growing pile of dog waste that is being left on the entrance to Castle Meadows.

There are no bins for dog owners to deposit their animal's waste so the bags have been stacked up on both entrances to the meadows.

Disgruntled dog walker Toby James said, "Once again it seems the powers that be have excelled in their abject failure to enforce a system that contains the slightest modicum of common sense. Here we have a situation where once again dogs and their owners are being singled out for special attention by the pathetic actions of a council who think that dog mess is the equivalent of armageddon. Dogs have being doing their do for centuries so to speak. It's natural, the earth accepts it, the birds eat it, and insects live of it. It's the way of things. It's nature's way of recycling. So just let the dog mess be MCC. In their wisdom, MCC seem to think that rather than letting the dog mess biodegrade in a natural and pollutant free manner, it would be a much better idea to hand out these hugely environmentally-damaging green bags, that we can put the dog mess in before making it air-tight and piling it high in a corner of castle meadows. I feel it's about time that local councillors got off their complacent behinds, pulled their thumbs out and led by example," he snapped.

Mr James said he was angry that it had to come to the attention of a resident before it got so bad.

"Once again it seems a concerned local resident is forced to highlight an issue. I noticed MCC were quick enough to provide portaloos for the travellers last Summer, but what about amenities for the local taxpayers. Are we not a politically correct enough issue perhaps?" he barked.

"You can bet your bottom dollar MCC would be quick enough to slap a walloping great fine on you if your dog dared to relieve themselves down the river, but they are not so quick to clear up the problem of the green bags. Now on my travels down the river, every time I see the mini mountain of green bags hosting a wealth of dog excrement, my thoughts turn to MCC and the inept and laughable way they conduct themselves. In fact I propose these green bags, like a modern work of art by Banksy,  should become a monument to the apathy and inactivity that best sums up MCC. After all they are experts in the field of leading us up the creek without a paddle. So congratulations MCC we are up to our waist in it," he growled.
