ONE of the best known Abergavenny veterinary surgeons has died after a very short illness reports LESLEY FLYNN..
Glynne Davies, 61, was the senior partner at Riverside Veterinary Centre in Brecon Road, a practice he set up with David Hassall thirty years ago.
Mr Davies came to Abergavenny to work with Owen and Partners following work as a houseman at Bristol University after he qualified as a vet.
On April 1, 1980 he set up his own practice in Beaufort, calling it the Riverside Veterinary Centre after the building .
A farmer's son from Porthkerry in the Vale of Glamorgan, he met his wife Rose, who was born in Cornwall, when they both worked in Jamaica for Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). He was teaching biology and maths while she taught English and geography. They married in 1973 and had three children, Owen, Ceri and Helen.
He was highly regarded by colleagues across the profession for his expertise, and his own clients for the dedication and care he gave their animals, and a measure of this was reflected in the book which many of them signed with messages of goodwill when he was first taken ill last October.
When he was not working he was a DIY enthusiast and enjoyed gardening and taking walking holidays with his wife. As well as his wife and children he is also survived by his grandson Rowan who was born in November.
The funeral service at St Mary's Church, Abergavenny at 2.30pm on Friday, February 11 will be followed by a private burial.
Donations in lieu of flowers are requested, and one of the recipients will be the St David's Foundation whose staff provided the family with invaluable help during his illness.
All inquiries to Ted Williams and Son, funeral directors in Park Road, Abergavenny.
