Menter Iaith Blaenau Gwent Torfaen a Mynwy (Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent, Language Initiative) are asking Eisteddfod visitors - learners and fluent speakers alike - to share their experiences using the Welsh language in their daily lives,
The project, Podcasting in Welsh that involves recording local people from the Gwent area, commenced a few weeks ago and has already collated interesting stories and experiences.
The project aims to document peoples’ use and contact with the Welsh language in Gwent and Wales as a whole during Eisteddfod week. The project, run by Menter Iaith Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen a Mynwy is one that also aims to raise the profile of the Welsh Language locally and the profile of the area nationally.
Sian Griffiths, Menter Iaith Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen a Mynwy Principal Officer said,“People often associate Gwent as an English speaking region in Wales, but you’ve only got to scratch slightly beneath the surface and there are Welsh speaking communities flourishing within the area. Our project aims to document the different characteristics of these communities and share them with the whole of Wales.”
“As the Eisteddfod visits the area of our work, we are also eager to hear from the public about the type of projects they’d like to see developed, to further promote the use of Welsh and as such we would like to welcome people to our stall to share their opinions, enjoy the atmosphere and hear more about the Menter Iaith’s work locally.”
