AN 11-year-old Scottish girl is cycling 500 miles from her home in Edinburgh to Llangynidr in memory of her Grandfather Peter Allen.

Hannah Moffat described her grandfather, as the 'best papa in the whole world' but he died from heart failure in November 2009.

She remembers how he used to phone her and his three other grandchildren every Sunday night to hear about their latest achievements.

Hannah decided that she wanted to do something in his memory and decided that raising money for the British Heart Foundation was a worthy cause.

She planned a route using as many cycle paths as possible to avoid heavy traffic in order to visit her aunt ,Julia Morris, in Llangynidr.

Hannah, accompanied by her father Rob, set off on the epic journey on Sunday, July 3 riding a tandem bicycle.

The pair anticipate arriving at The Red Lion in Llangynidr at lunchtime this Saturday.

Hannah has already received a number of good luck messages including one from world record breaking cyclist Mark Beaumont and another from former Scotland rugby captain Gavin Hastings.

Hannah told the Scottish media before she left that she aims to raise £5,000 for the British Heart Foundation adding, "Papa was very funny and he made me laugh all the time. I really miss him and my mummy does too.

"I want to do this bike ride to remember him and help all the other people, like my Papa, who have weak hearts. I want everyone to live a bit longer so they have more time to have fun."

Hannah's Aunt Julia Morris said, "The British Heart Foundation do invaluable work and it can only continue with donations from people like us.

"We would like as many people as possible to welcome Hannah and Rob at the end of their epic journey at the Red Lion in Llangynidr on July 16 at around 1pm.

"We are all very proud of them."
