Mardy U18s - 10

Caldicot U18s - 7

THE first leg of the cup tie between Caldicot Town and Mardy started impressively for Mardy after Ben Woodward robbed the centre back and scored with less than a minute on the clock.

The home side quickly equalised, and the rest of the half was an even contest with Mardy edging it 3-2.

The second half was a bit different with Mardy dominant, increasing their lead to 5-2 and Woodward completing his hat trick.

Caldicot gave themselves some hope of staying in the tie but Mardy finished the game off in style with two more goals in quick succession to end the first leg 7-3, with Ben Woodward getting four goals and man of the match.

The home leg for Mardy turned out to be a different game altogether, with Caldicot's Welsh League under 18's side contributing several players.

The game started off very evenly with neither side being able to make the break through, but it came for the away side after a well worked free kick. With Caldicot pushing forward, Mardy did manage to equalise against the run of play with a calmly taken finish from Tom Jenkins.

Caldicot's second came after a goal line scramble which Mardy failed to clear. With time running out in the first half Mardy found the goal they needed, Ben Woodward striking from the edge of the area.

over the majority of the second half Caldicot were in the driving seat and scored two quick goals to threaten extra time.

This seemed to galvanise Mardy who kept moving forward to try and pull a goal back, and with ten minutes left on the clock they made their pressure tell with another lovely finish from Ben Woodward.

With time now running out the visitors couldn't get back on terms in the tie. Caldicot won the game 4-3 but Mardy went through, with the score over the two legs at 10-7. Mikeal Woodhouse, imperious in defence again, was man of the match.
