A shopkeeper dubbed ‘Grabber Grenfell’ after being found guilty of groping female customers has lost his appeal against a string of sexual assault convictions.

Raymond Grenfell, 70, claimed his touching, kissing and suggestive comments was ‘friendly banter’.

The owner of Grenfell and Son grocer’s in Crickhowell was found guilty by Brecon magistrates in March this year of sexual assaults on four women.

Three of his victims have now been awarded £1,000 compensation each after Grenfell attempted to clear his name at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, forcing them to give more evidence.

But Michael Fitton QC described Grenfell as a ‘man who lacks respect for women’ and said he must pay.

He dismissed Grenfell’s appeal for three of the women, upholding it for a fourth because the burden of proof had not been met.

The grandfather of four was earlier convicted of sexually assaulting the four women in their 30s and 40s by grabbing their breasts and waist, kissing them on the lips and offering to shoot nude photos of them.

Grenfell, who gave his grocery shop address in High Street, Crickhowell, was ordered to complete 150 hours unpaid work along with the £1,000 compensation to three women.

He will also have to sign as a sex offender for five years.
