MEMBERS of Crickhowell tennis club recently attended the official opening of two new grass courts.
Situated on the outfield of the cricket pitch, with Crickhowell Castle as a scenic backdrop, the two new courts have been made possible by the generous financial help of club sponsor Number 18 Café and Brasserie.
Crickhowell tennis club member and grounds-man Mike Burt put in hundreds of hours of voluntary work to ensure an excellent grass surface on the courts and Crickhowell cricket club have also kindly allowed the club to use the cricket outfield when cricket matches are not being played.
The grass courts, which will complement the club's two existing floodlit hard courts, have been opened due to an expanding club membership and to support the growing number of local young people who are showing an interest in tennis and wish to enjoy the health and fitness benefits which the sport offers.
At present the club has nearly 200 members, a thriving social tennis programme, numerous teams and over 100 players of all ages participating in weekly coaching sessions with Welsh international head coach Chris Hill.
