NFU Ladies, Monmouthshire held their AGM at the Woodlake Golf Club, Glascoed where the President Clare Jones presented a cheque for £3,565 to Breast Cancer Care Cymru.
The impressive sum had been raised throughout the past year’s activities from events and donations including a Harvest Supper and Auction - shared with Gwent YFC - and a charity lunch at Usk Rugby Club in June.
Rachael Power, Community Fundraiser for the charity, thanked members for their generosity and introduced Sarah Perkins, who gave a very moving account of her experiences of being diagnosed with breast cancer at just 40 years of age, praising the support she received from Breast Cancer Care Cymru.
Thankfully, Sarah has made a full recovery and is very positive about the future.
The President then gave her report of the past year’s activities which included lunches at various establishments in the county with speakers/demonstrators on each occasion.
The last event, in May, was an afternoon tea at the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club where members were also taken around the Hendre home of the Rolls Family.
Karen Milsom, from Monmouth Museum, gave a fascinating insight into family life in the House, the high esteem in which the family was held in Monmouth and the locality, the royal connections and Charles Rolls, co-founder of Rolls Royce.
Clare also organised a five-day holiday trip for 32 members to Honfleur, in Normandy, with visits to see the Bayeaux Tapestry, D-Day landing beaches and Monet’s Garden.
As the term for President is now for two years the fundraising has started for Clare’s next choice of charities which are Diabetes UK and Juvenile Diabetes.
This year’s Harvest Festival, Supper and Auction were held in late September, again jointly with Gwent YFC, who raised their share of the proceeds for Intensive Care at Nevill Hall Hospital.
