RUMOURS are rife in the community that Monmouthshire County Council is looking at another site to build the replacement cattle market.
The council owns the land at Bryngwyn, on the outskirts of Raglan, where a scheme has been drawn up to build the new livestock market which will serve not only Monmouthshire but also Newport and surrounding counties.
The rumours were denied by a spokesman for the council who said, "We are still actively pursuing the site at Bryngwyn, we however need to remove shooting rights over a small part of the site which belong to Pontypool Park Estates (J Hanbury Tenison)."
When questioned about the rumours that the other site is near Little Mill the spokesman added, "We have been notified that Mr Hanbury Tenison is looking to submit a planning application on a site in his ownership at Mamhilad, but we have not been involved in any discussions with him regarding this."
