We deliver laundry to addresses throughout Abergavenny
and the surrounding villages. Getting through the town
centre is very difficult, understandable in a way, because
it is a town centre.
However there are 'black spots'. The right turn from Lion
Street into Market Street and the intersection between
Cross Street and Monk Street (not helped by the over-run
on works on The Angel).
The first could be helped by providing a lane for traffic
turning right into Market Street. There is sufficient room
by reducing the size of the pavements. This helps
freeing-up traffic proceeding up Cross Street
The second is more of a problem but, as residents know,
any vehicle with a long wheel base cannot turn without
using the whole of the road. The George pub, I
understand, has been purchased by Alun Griffiths, but is
unlikely to be used.
Why can't the councils reimburse Mr Griffiths and knock-
down the building. This will provide space for a
roundabout which will enable traffic coming from Monk
Street to turn up Lower Castle Street and Cross Street
without holding up through traffic.
An overall benefit for locals will be in traffic not using
side streets to cut through because of the almost
permanent jams.
