A theatre performance created using the stories, memories and opinions of local people will run for one night only at Abergavenny Borough Theatre next Wednesday (May 14, 8pm). Produced as part of an ongoing project run by the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University, 'Performing Abergavenny Voices' is the result of interviews with residents of all ages. The evening will be hosted by stand-up comedian, Steve Hall, who will also direct a 'Mock the Abergavenny Week' style segment. A music video featuring dozens of people and businesses from across the town will also be screened for the first time and a short play written and performed by local actors and young people will highlight social issues in the town. "The evening will act as a showcase for all the interviews and input that local people have contributed to the project over the past few years," said Dr David Studdert from Cardiff University. "You can expect to see humour, music and even have a singalong at the end of the show. We would like people of all ages from Abergavenny to attend and discover more about the town." The theatre performance is part of the overall 'Performing Abergavenny' project which is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Tickets are available free from the box office at the Borough Theatre.
