IN GARETH Knowles' research into Abergavenny's

Twinning history, the role of the schools in developing

our links with Ostringen seems to have been ignored. The

relationship between King Henry VIII School and the

Leibniz Gymnasium and Thomas Morus Realschule in our

German twin town has been sustained almost throughout

the 40 years. Indeed, for a considerable period the

schools have provided the only youth links between

Abergavenny and Ostringen.

I ceased teaching at King Henry VIII School ten years ago

but do not forget the hard work and support of parents,

teachers and helpful, generous townspeople involved in

the many pupil exchanges still ongoing and developing.

I believe that the same can be said of the school

exchanges with Beaupreau, albeit over a shorter period.

I appreciate the work that the organisers of this

celebration have had to take upon themselves. However,

it's sad that the contribution of school staff and students

on both sides of the channel was not acknowledge in

Gareth Knowles' article and that there has been so little

involvement of the school in this festival.
