MORE than £1,000 was raised for Help for Heroes at an evening of music in Llanbedr.
On Saturday, November 14 Blaenavon Male Voice Choir and special guest Katie Salt performed in St Peter's Church, Llanbedr in aid of the charity. The church acoustics were well suited to the choral singing. The choir performed a mix of arrangements ranging from traditional Welsh hymns to opera choruses. Musical director Gareth Whitcombe gave a moving arrangement of Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton. Katie, originally from Bridgend and now studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama sang beautifully 'Fields of Gold' by Eva Cassidy to rapturous applause. Timed to coincide with armistice week ticket sales were brisk and there were several generous donations to Help for Heroes not least from the choir itself.
Amount raised was £1,452.50. Former RAF officer Simon Wragg organised the concert and sings in the choir, he asked the audience to reflect on the sacrifices made for their country by service men and women injured in recent conflicts.
