An Abergavenny man concerned that too many elderly and vulnerable people would be left to spend time alone at Christmas has organised a special festive lunch at Abergavenny Community Centre.
Lee Dobson explained,“Originally I just wanted to invite one or two lonely elderly strangers to my house on Christmas Day so that they had company and a nice cooked and completely free Christmas dinner. But I soon realised that more people could be helped and so the idea then grew into hosting a lunch on December 23 at 1pm for as many people as possible.
“I just wanted those that needed to see a friendly face and maybe even have a hot meal not to be forgotten.
“We will be serving a festive roast dinner and pudding as well as tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks. The meal is pay what you can afford and is open to anyone that wants to attend no matter what age. They can book a place at the lunch by emailing me ([email protected]), ringing me on 07547 777518 or contacting the Community Centre itself.”
All donations will be used for the meal, with any funds raised on the day being given to the Community Centre for their new community kitchen.
“We already have all the items we need for the roast and most of the puddings but donations are still welcome as any left over will be donated to the food bank in Abergavenny,” Lee added.
