Coleg Gwent has donated a promotional trailer to local charity St David’s Hospice. The trailer, which was previously used by Coleg Gwent when staff attended events throughout the region, has now been rebranded and will be used by St David’s Hospice at fundraising events.
St David’s Hospice provides palliative care throughout Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen and Mid/South Powys for people, their families and carers facing a progressive life limiting illness which is no longer curable and they rely heavily on donations and fundraising activities to fund the fantastic services they provide.
The donation came about after a chance meeting between Coleg Gwent Marketing Coordinator Mike Thomas and Kris Broome, Director of St David’s Hospice Care at a fundraising event last year.
Mike Thomas said: “Kris commented how useful a trailer, similar to ours, would be to the Hospice with their promotional and fundraising events. We had an older trailer that we were no longer using so I pitched the idea of donating this to support a wonderful local charity and I was delighted when we were given the go ahead.”
Kris Broome said: “St David’s Hospice Care is delighted to receive the awareness trailer from Coleg Gwent and after having it refurbished will be looking to use it at numerous events moving forward. It’s a piece of equipment that has been on the wish list for many years but we’ve never had the financial resource to allocate to such a project. The trailer will be used as an ‘information station’ throughout the areas that St David’s provides it’s free services locally, keep an eye out at supermarkets, local events and summer shows.”
Gary Handley, Campus Director for the City of Newport Campus, said: “St David’s Hospice is such a wonderful organisation that provides invaluable respite to many families in the region and I am thrilled that the trailer will assist them in their ongoing fundraising and awareness activities.”
St David’s is keen to recruit any volunteers who may wish to help with this new venture, please call Kris on 01633 851058 / email – [email protected]
