15-year-old wheelchair racer Daniel Lucker has been selected by Youth Sport Trust to act as UK School Games Champion Ambassador for 2009.
The Champion Ambassador programme honours the outstanding performers from the UK School Games, where Lucker won a gold medal, and ensures that they become patrons of the event.
As a representative of athletics, Lucker is joined by a number of leading young performers from the other UK School Games sports.
Lucker, who is hoping to be part of the GB Team at the 2012 London Paralympics, is studying at Crickhowell High School and is coached by two-times London Marathon winner Chris Hallam. Lucker has competed in several wheelchair racing events both on track and road, and his accolades include winning the Adidas Mini London Marathon in 2006 and 2008, the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k in 2008 and becoming U16 Junior World Champion in the 1500m and 5000m in 2008.
The Champion Ambassadors first task will be to take part in a high level discussion regarding the future of sport, and the support of elite young athletes.
Working closely with Youth Sport Trust and the UK School Games patron (the Rt.Hon. Richard Caborn MP), the Champion Ambassadors will be well placed to shape the future development of the UK School Games event.
