ALL things Welsh were celebrated at Llanbedr Church in Wales School on St David's Day last week.

Pupils, dressed up in national costume and Welsh rugby shirts, sang traditional songs and some played guitars and cornets.

School team Barti Ddu were crowned St David's Day champions for being awarded the most points for their written work, model marking, art work and cookery.

The celebration was led by headteacher Gwynfa Lilly, who had recently returned from a British Council Connecting Classrooms visit to India.

She compared Indian traditions and cultural heritage with that of Wales, showing the pupils gifts that had been presented to her during the visit to schools, Aurangabad, Labur and Nambed in the Maharashtra region of India.

Pupils were shown saris, shawls, elephants, Indian pictures, a lezim (a small musical instrument with jingling cymbals carried by dancers when dancing the lezim a folk dance from the state of Maharashtra)and the lotus flower (national flower of India).

After the concert parents, governors and friends shared Welsh cakes made by the pupils.
