A THEATRE organisation in Abergavenny is hosting a virtual Eisteddfod celebration to mark St David’s Day online, writes JOE PUGH.

Acting for the Borough, also known as A4B, are the umbrella organisation which represent the amateur theatre societies that perform at the Borough Theatre in town.

Ordinarily, the group host an annual St David’s Day celebratory concert at the theatre.

Last year’s concert featured Blaenavon Male Voice Choir and was the last A4B production to appear at the theatre before the first national lockdown.

With restrictions still preventing live performances, the group organised an online Eisteddfod competition with entries from the public.

Liz Davies, chairman of A4B, said: “We’re really excited to launch our virtual Eisteddfod.

‘‘We can’t be on stage at the Borough Theatre, but we hope our YouTube show will at least give our audiences a taste of some of our amazing local talent”.

The competition includes categories for poetry, art, dance, singing, photography and even a limerick contest.

The categories were open to a range of age groups from under 12s to adults.

Aside from the Eisteddfod, A4B have been active online since the first national lockdown last year.

The group has most recently hosted a virtual awards night in lieu of their normal black-tie gala.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for local people to get involved with this traditional Welsh festival online.

‘‘With the variety of competitions we have this year, there really is something for everyone” said Alys Le Moignan, secretary of A4B.

The final production will be published on A4B’s YouTube channel on March 1.
