A heartbroken cat owner is warning other animal lovers to be vigilant after her beloved cat, Lucy, died of anti-freeze poisoning.

Kelly Pritchard of Charles Crescent, Abergavenny lost her two and a half year old pet last Saturday after it showed signs of distress. A visit to the vet confirmed kidney damage consistent with anti-freeze toxicity.

‘Lucy was only two and a half; we have had her since she came to us as a pregnant stray at about seven months old. It’s so tragic, she could have had another fifteen years of life,’ stated Kelly, who owns another two cats.

Glynis Davies of the Gwent Branch of the Cats Protection League stated, ‘This is another tragic case of a cat being poisoned by anti-freeze.

“Our hearts go out to the family who rescued Lucy as a pregnant stray. We would urge people everywhere to be very careful of where they store anti-freeze.’

A small animals veterinary spokesperson commented, ‘Cats may ingest anti freeze when cleaning their feet after stepping in it.

“Unfortunately, the average size cat needs to drink only a teaspoon measure to cause potentially fatal kidney failure,”
