The Soundscape Project at Abergavenny’s Nevill Hall Hospital, which will be run by Chrys Blanchard’s Resonant Collective group in October this year, has been boosted to the tune of £1,000 by John Lewis Music Matters Scheme.
Chrys set up Resonant Collective with the aim of ‘Bringing Sound For Well Being Into Public Spaces’. A core group of members and people come from all over the UK to join with local musicians to create bespoke events.
The project will start with a series of events taking place at the hospital throughout the first two weeks of October, culminating in the main Soundscape event which will take place in the large ‘Out Patients’ Waiting Hall on the afternoon of Sunday October 16 between 2pm and 5pm.
Visitors, patients and staff are invited to wander freely through the space and experience the live, sound installation that is performed by 36 vocalists and a team of musicians weaving the magical sounds of gongs and Himalayan singing bowls with pure vocal sounds and over tones.
The whole space is filled with a beautiful, profound resonance that people find deeply relaxing and moving.
The project has taken place annually for the last seven years and each year it attracts more and more visitors. Others, who just happen upon it as a result of being in the hospital that day, are drawn to stay and sit a while. Last year a young woman about to have an operation said, after experiencing the Soundscape, "I feel so calm.... it has been an amazing experience."
If you are interested in being involved in the Soundscape with Resonant Collective, either as a vocalist or musician or in a supporting role, behind the scenes, or if you can help with further funding, please contact Chrys at [email protected]
