A teenager who has been given just months to live has helped set up a fundraising page which has raised more than £50,000 to help Jacob Jones’ fight with cancer.

A few weeks we reported how the family of Jacob Jones, who has been fighting a rare type of cancer called neuroblastoma, were told further scans were needed on Jacob after lumps were found on his lungs.

Sadly the scans revealed the cancer had returned after a suspected cancerous lump was found on his liver.

Having heard of Jacob’s story online, teenager Rhys Langford who is severely ill with osteosarcoma decided to donate £1,000 of his own savings towards Jacob’s treatment.

Following his amazing gesture, Rhys went one step further by setting up a crowdfunding page on Sunday January 16 for Jacob which has now raised £58,124 from nearly 3,000 donations towards Jacob’s treatment.

Rhys was diagnosed with osteosarcoma - a cancer which starts in the bones - in October 2020, and after 16 months of intensive chemotherapy was sadly told in January that his cancer has returned, and he only has a few months to live.

Despite the diagnosis, Rhys has taken the selfless decision to help Jacob in his own fight against cancer.

Posting on his crowdfunding page, Rhys said: “Reading about little Jacob and his own fight and his cancer relapse has really upset me.

‘‘I know nothing can be done for me now but as one of my many last wishes I would like to help Jacob and help him fight this awful disease. I know what the treatments and awful drugs does to your body, Jacob is now six and has been fighting this disease most of his life. It should not be this way!

“Jacobs family are looking to raise money again for treatment. I have transferred £1000 to Jacob’s family privately but it’s still not enough. Please help me, help Jacob!”

Rhys’ crowd-funder has been inundated with donations and messages of support, with Wales rugby legend Jonathan Davies recording a message of support online praising Rhys for his amazing gesture.

Jacob’s family expressed their thanks to Rhys for his wonderful fundraising efforts, posting on Jacob’s Fight Facebook page: “Our thoughts and love Go out to Rhys at this difficult time, and on behalf of Jacob, his family and the whole Jacob’s Fight team we would like to thank Rhys for his incredible contribution towards Jacob’s treatment.”
