A NEW group set up in the wake of Coronavirus crisis is urging all elderly and vulnerable people in Abergavenny not to worry about going to the shop for their groceries or to the pharmacy for their medicine, because there are plenty of willing volunteers on stand-by in the local community to do it for them.

Abergavenny Street Monitors is now over 340 strong and growing in number each and every day.

The group’s Aaron Welch told the Chronicle, "The more people who know about this service the better. Not everyone is on Facebook and not everyone has access to the internet. So I urge everybody to help spread the word so the message can get to those who need our help most."

Aaron added, "I still see plenty of pensioners walking through town with their bags of shopping when they really don’t need to. All you have to do is pick up the phone and call me on 07590054723 and either I or another Street Monitor will help you out. At this point in time there’s really no need for anyone who is at high-risk to leave the house. We are there for you and are more than happy to help. Please bear that in mind."
