SATURDAY spelt cup-upset with a capital 'C' for Gwent Central Division One leaders Clydach Wasps, whose unbeaten run came to an abrupt and unexpected end at the hands of Gilwern and District.
Gilwern, who are currently sitting rock bottom in the Premier Division, were not expected to poise too much of a problem for last year's Division One champions the Wasps - who looked far the stronger side on paper.
Yet in a game many considered simply a formality for Clydach, Gilwern youngster Matthew Burkitt's spectacular goal in the 13th minute saw him beat three Clydach defenders and rifle the ball home from 12 yards out to up-end the apple cart and take Gilwern through to the P&P Open semi-finals with a 1-0 win.
Usk Town were simply awesome with their 10-0 demolition job on Sebastopol. Jeremy Barton scored a hat-trick for his club, Carl McEwan bagged a brace, and Will Barton, Adam Hutchins, Richard Morgan, and Lewis Thomas all scored a goal apiece.
Usk's other goal was scored by ex-Thursdays and veteran player Brian Jones from the edge of the box into the top corner in his debut score for the club.
In Llanarth's quarter-final tie with Goytre, the two sides were level 1-1 at half-time, and 2-2 after 90 minutes. Come extra time and Goytre stepped it up a notch to win the game 5-3 after a blistering hat-trick by Gareth Edwards and solo efforts by Jason Stokes and Nathan Hewitt. Llanarth's goals came from Michael Morgan (2) and Colin Morgan,
In the league, current Premier Division leaders Trevethin played host to Pandy, and the Torfaen side made it 14 wins out of 14 played with a 14-1 win.
The consolation goal for Pandy came from Kirk Morgan.
Blaenavon Blues returned to winning ways with a 4-0 win at Pen-y-Pound stadium over the Abergavenny Thursdays.
Liam Powell bagged a brace for the Blues and Craig Harris scored a solo effort to make it 3-0 going into the interval. Harris completed his hat-trick in the second-half to seal an impressive Blues victory.
Mardy recorded a 3-0 home win over visitors Race, with all three goals in the first-half coming from Justin Swain (2) and man of the match James Copeland.
Current Division Two leaders Prescoed were beaten at home 4-5 by visitors Llanfoist.
Prescoed went 3-0 down in the first ten minutes of the match, but pulled the score back to 2-3 by half-time, but ultimately failed to turn the tide in their favour.
Elsewhere in Division Two, Gilwern 'B' and Clydach 'B' ended all square on 1-1.
