Burglars forced open the door of a local family-run tobacconist before ransacking the shop, stealing tobacco and cash, and making off into the night.
Criminals broke into the Leather & Tobacco shop on White Horse Lane overnight last week, before a member of the public noticed damage to the shop’s front door, and called police.
The culprits broke in, relieving the store, which has been open for a near-century, of several packets of tobacco, cigarettes, cigars, leather wallets, two cash registers, and a charity box police said contained an undisclosed ‘large amount of cash’.
A police spokeswoman told the Chronicle that the situation was ongoing.
“We received a report of a burglary at a shop on Whitehorse Lane in Abergavenny at around 5.17am on Friday December, 14. The burglary was thought to happen sometime the previous night,” she said.
Officers are investigating, and are appealing for anyone who has information about this incident to call 101, quoting log 39 14/12/18.
