Lucas Cwmbran- 2

Govilon - 6

GOVILON continued their devastating and seemingly unstoppable run of form after hitting Lucas for six last Saturday.

Jamie Laurent opened up the Lucas defence after 10 minutes and his cross could have found any of the three Govilon men waiting in the box, but it was Dean Morgan who pounced to give Govilon an early lead.

Lucas were having their fair share of the game and equalised when a Gareth Williams corner found Jamie Arnold who poked the ball through a static defence.

Govilon restored their advantage on the 25th minute when Richard McCarthy sent Dean Morgan towards goal. Morgan made no mistake in grabbing his second and only mere moments later it took a last ditch goal-line tackle to prevent him completing an early hat trick. More chances followed as Govilon settled for a 2-1 interval lead.

Morgan was soon in action after the re-start benefitting from good link play between Jamie Laurent and Matthew Ham, but this time the goal machine shot wide.

A minute later and Morgan was the provider, freeing Laurent who saw his shot skim over the bar.

However, it was from another Laurent attack that Govilon increased their lead after he was brought down outside the box, and up stepped Richard McCarthy to blast home the free kick.

Lucas themselves had a free kick awarded in a similar position, but this came to nothing, and when Rhys Whiteman was felled in the box Govilon had the opportunity to increase their lead through free kick specialist McCarthy.

Yet it was Wren in the Lucas goal who came out on top foiling McCarthy's well struck effort. The reprieve was short lived as Lucas fell further behind when Morgan gained possession and rounded the goalkeeper in trademark fashion to complete his hat-trick.

It was Morgan again on 80 minutes latching onto a rifling cross field pass from Laurent to add another to his tally.

Morgan got his fifth of the game with two minutes remaining after Danny Marfell's pass sent him clear. Lucas scored a late consolation in the final seconds.

Govilon travel to Sudbrook on Saturday (k.o.2.00pm), and will be looking for another three points to consolidate their position at the top of the table before continuing their defence of the Gwent Amateur cup in a quarter final tie away at Rogerstone the following Saturday.
