THE BODY of an 18-year-old man was recovered from the River Usk by Brecon Mountain Rescue Team on Monday, November 7 following a four day search .

It is believed to by that of a missing man from Bristol thought to have been involved in an incident which left Crickhowell's historic bridge badly damaged by a car being chased by police on Sunday, October 30.

Officers from Dyfed Powys Police had been in pursuit of the car following the theft of quad bikes from two separate premises in Pengenffordd.

Police later found the two quad bikes abandoned, one having crashed into a wall - believed to be the boundary wall of the Glan Usk Estate.

Three men have been arrested in connection to the incident and are currently on police bail.

At the time a search using specialist teams and the force's helicopter was also undertaken as the vehicle crashed close to the River Usk but no one was found.

A spokesperson from Dyfed Powys Police confirmed that following searches of the River Usk a body of a male has been recovered.

Mark Jones, from Brecon Mountain Rescue Team said, "The members of our specialist river search team spent four day searching the river.

"Our kayakers found the body of a man on a small island in the river near Crickhowell, at 4.30pm on Monday.

"All the emergency services worked very closely together in this incident to bring about a successful resolution."
