The Severn Area Rescue Association were called to an incident in the River Monnow at Skenfrith on Sunday (July 27) , following concerns for the welfare of a woman who had been swimming in the river. Gwent Police alerted SARA and swift-water rescue crews from Beachley, Chepstow, Monmouth and Newport were dispatched.  Upon arrival the SARA teams launched a rescue boat and after a methodical search of a deep pool in the river, the body of a 34 year old woman from Coventry was recovered. Gwent Police have said the death is not being treated as suspicious, and the volunteer crews engaged in the search and the whole SARA Rescue Organisation extend their sympathies to the family and friends at this sad time.
