Police have confirmed that a body found in Newport last Friday is that of missing Abergavenny man Gerald Jones.

The 61-year-old was found within the Gwent Levels Wetland Reserve in Newport.

Mr Jones, who was first reported missing from his Abergavenny home in January, was discovered by police following a report made by a member of the public around lunchtime last Friday.

A police spokesperson said: “There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and our thoughts are with Gerald’s family at this difficult time.”
