Blaenavon Blues Ladies - 8
Merthyr Valley Ladies - 0
BLAENAVON Blues Ladies brought down the curtain on their 2008-2009 League campaign last week with a convincing win over Merthyr Valley.
The Blues were forced to make several changes for the second week running as players made themselves unavailable at the last minute. However, the players who came in gave a good account of themselves.
The game itself was ruined by the gale force wind that was blowing at the Memorial Ground and the Blues had to contend with the strong wind in their faces throughout the first half.
They still managed to go 1-0 up thanks to a super goal from striker Tenah French who received the ball just outside the box off midfielder Angharad Williams to cooly fire the ball home.
The second half was a totally one sided affair as the Blues dominated in all departments. However the Blues were unlucky to lose their captain Abbie Powell as soon as the second half kicked off due to a foot injury.
French made the most of the Blues possession when she pounced straight after the break to make it 2-0 to the Blues.
French got her hat trick on 53 minutes before newly converted midfielder De Thomas got in on the act two minutes later.
On the 55th minute it was Thomas who grabbed her second of the game. The sixth goal came off a pin point corner provided by French which midfielder Christie Shepherd pounced on.
There was nothing stopping French as she grabbed her fourth of the evening courtesy of a pin point pass off goal keeper come defender Emily Reed.
Then the final goal of the game came with eight minutes remaining. This time it was De Thomas who benefited off a through ball from French to score her hat trick.
The player of the Match Award went to striker Tenah French who showed excellent skill along with power and clinical finishing as she continues to grow in confidence game by game.
