THE Blaenafon Barracudas entered a team of eight young swimmers to compete in

the Torfaen Sprints at the Newport International Sports Village earlier this month.

The Blaenafon squad consisted of Brandon Davies, Chloe Roche, Chris Rogers, David Langley, Harley Owen, Rhys Langley, Sarah Haynes and Tomos Evans.

The Blaenafon swimmers reached 14 finals between them, and clocked up a total of 30 personal best times along the way.

Sarah Haynes (11 yrs) reached three of the four finals in the 100M events and swam

in a total of eight finals.

Sarah achieved medals in eight of her nine events overall, and was named fourth best girl of the event.

A special mention must go to Harley Owen who reached the final of the 50M breast stroke and achieved her

first competitive medal.

The Blaenafon squad were joined by four additional barracudas swimmers for the 'Cannon' event.

This event also provided five swimmers with 50M freestyle personal best times.

Blaenafon Barracudas competed alongside several stronger clubs and recorded a respectable time of five minutes and 35 seconds for the event, some 35 seconds behind the winning team.

Club Chairman, Kevin Rogers said, " I am staggered at these results, and so proud of all our swimmers for stepping up to the mark. We must be doing something right as a coaching team".

Two Barracudas swimmers, Brandon Davies and Harley Owen, also entered the Hereford Level three Meet on Saturday July 12, with Owen achieving her second competitive medal by coming second in the final of the 50M breast stroke event.
