Blaenavon Blues 2

Pill FC - 4

IN a very competitive game with plenty of good football from both sides, the Blaenavon Blues fell shy of victory by two goals in their Gwent Amateur Cup match against Pill.

The Blues entertained the Gwent County division two leaders at the Memorial Ground and attacked first when young Matt Cox had a shot well saved by Pill keeper Adam Cueto.

In the next offensive Lloyd Jeffries gave the Blues the lead with a fine finish.

Straight from the kick off Pill equalised and then took the lead with a great free kick

from their midfielder Rico Zulkarnian.

Blues then suffered a blow when Lloyd Jeffries was carried off with a leg injury; he was replaced by another youngster Illtyd Caddick.

From a corner Pills Tristram Chambers put his side 3-1 up with a free header at the far

post.

20 minutes into the second half and Lee Penry fired a free kick narrowly wide and

within minutes he forced Cueto into a fine save in the Pill goal.

It came as no surprise when Penry brought his side back into the game at 3-2, after Jamie

Brankley's good work set him up.

Pill's reply was rapid. Niall Yeates scoring goal number four with a towering header from another corner.

Midfielders Steve White and skipper Mike Waite along with defender Lee Wathen were

outstanding for the Blues.

Despite the loss, manager Charlie Attard was pleased with the performance of his young side against a very strong and physical Pill side that will probably have a long run in this cup competition.

Caldicot Castle - 3

Govilon - 1

A high-flying Caldicot side proved too much of an handful for Govilon in their Gwent Amateur Cup tie.

The conditions were very wet under feet and Govilon tried to play football but found it impossible to move the ball with any pace.

Caldicot scored with there first shot on goal midway through the first half when Govilon defended poorly from a counter attack and found themselves a score down.

Govilon soon equalised through Dean Morgan, and Jake Heckles, playing only his second senior game for Govilon was causing Caldicot all sorts of problems down the right side.

Into the second half and Govilon battered Caldicot but failed to get pass their well organised defence and when they did chance after chance went begging.

The sucker punch came when after a good break 70 minutes in, Caldicot took the lead.

Govilon set up camp inside the Caldicot half for the remainder of the game but still couldn't find the goal they craved.

Deep into injury time Caldicot finished the game off with a goal inside the box.

Govilon are away to Clydach next Saturday in part one of a double header before the Christmas break.
