Regeneration? How can you regenerate a town centre by
taking hundreds of thousands of pounds out of the local
economy and sending it to America?
I believe the county planning officers are profoundly
wrong in thinking an urban retail park on the cattle
market site could do anything to help the town centre
shops.
On the contrary, the planning officers must know what
has happened to towns and cities all over Britain since so
much local trade has gone to out of town shopping.
If we really want to regenerate town centre we need to cut
traders' rate bills, drastically, and abolish parking charges
to give town centre shops a bit of a local playing field
needed?
Are you fed up with waiting for something to happen on
the cattle market? Live to get something done? No use
unless it's the right thing for the town. Better nothing
than do the wrong thing and wreck Abergavenny.
Regeneration? Abergavenny flourishes by being different.
By being itself, not like every other small town. The
council (and it's cheer leaders) are doing their best to
regenerate Asda.
