On a sultry Saturday in Ross, Beavers won the toss and decided to bat. Gary Thomas and Jake Groves got them off to a solid start with a stand of 44 before Groves played a loose shot to be caught at mid-off for 28.

This seemed to set the tone for the day, as Elwyn Jenkins (2), Gary Thomas (18) and Mark Winstanley (4) all went to similarly loose shots.

At 67 for four, the Beavers looked for a partnership, and it came in the shape of Matt Botting and late call-up Richard Bradley.

Botting continued his good form of the previous week with a series of boundaries off anything short. The hard-hitting Bradley in his first run out of the season, played some excellent drives down the ground, as the score soon passed 100.

The partnership continued to grow, but just three short of the century, Botting played a poor short to the leg spinner and was bowled for 47.

Bradley continued and reached his 50, but was out straightaway after, more from tiredness than anything else. Wickets continued to fall with Ellis Jones (5), and Jon Thomas (17) getting out to equally poor shots.

The score passed 200 with Owain Bradley showing the right application to try and ensure the Beavers used up their allotted overs. However, when Jamie Cooke went clean bowled for one, it was left to 12-year-old Tristan Astley-Jones to try and help Bradley through the last few overs.

These two looked to be in little trouble, until in the 43rd over, Astley-Jones (11) failed to play through a drive, and dollied a catch up to mid-on as the Beavers were dismissed for 249, with Bradley remaining unbeaten on 22.

With an extra two overs to reach their target, Ross got off to a quick start with 19 off the first three overs, before Jon Thomas and Jamie Cooke got into their stride, reeling in the scoring rate.

Cooke finished his spell wicketless, but as Gary Thomas was introduced, the breakthrough finally came at the other end as Jon Thomas had the opener caught behind by Ellis Jones.

Gary Thomas got in the act as well, removing the other opener, also caught behind by Jones. Thomas then picked up two wickets in an over as Ross slumped to 37 for for.

Ross captain Skyrme was the only batsman to show any resistance with some big shots straight down the ground. However, the Beavers were making inroads at the other end, with a good run out by Jake Groves, and another wicket for Gary Thomas.

Owain Bradley also came into the attack, and he picked up two wickets himself, with caught and bowled and a stumping for Jones.

Jones was having an excellent day behind the stumps, but his one miss came off Bradley as Skyrme survived a knick behind.

With the match won, the Beavers needed one more wicket for full points. Ross survived 13 overs without too much difficulty despite every effort being made to attack the last batsman with all the field in for close catches.

At the end of the 47 overs, Ross had reached 180 for eight, to give the Beavers a win by 69 runs, and more importantly another 19 points to keep their position at the top of the league. Jon Thomas was the pick of the bowlers with three for 25 off 10 overs, with Gary Thomas (two for 38) and Owain Bradley (two for 45) off their 10 overs.

Next week, the Beavers entertain Bartestree at Crickhowell, hoping to continue their push towards the Division Five title.
