A TRANSATLANTIC rower from Abergavenny has fulfilled a lifelong ambition by making it into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Elaine Theaker along with team mates Dianne Carrington and Sharon Magrath rowed the Atlantic Ocean last winter in an epic 2,723 nautical mile journey.

Elaine appears in the 2019 edition of the best-selling book in two categories - as a member of the first all-female trio to row any ocean and also as the highest average age for an all-female team to row the Atlantic at 57 years and 40 days.

Elaine told The Chronicle, ‘As a young 8-year-old, I would dream of appearing in this book. I used to regularly practice for the record I was aiming to break, which was to eat the greatest number of baked beans in a minute!

‘I am living proof that dreams really do come true - even if they end up not quite as you expected.’

A play based on the record-breaking voyage will be staged in the Borough Theatre on September 30th. Tickets are available from the Box Office.
