WOULD you like the chance to make your mark on Abergavenny’s history by joining the Chairman of Monmouthshire County Council, Councillor Jim Higginson and the Mayor of Abergavenny, Councillor Chris Woodhouse when they officially open the town’s refurbished streets in late July?

With work almost finished plans are now in place for the official handover from the contractors and Councillors Higginson and Woodhouse are delighted to be able to invite one of the town’s young people to join them on Thursday, July 28 when they cut the ribbon to officially mark the end of the five month scheme.

If you would like to be in with a chance of taking your place alongside the councillors on the big day, all you have to do is show off your artistic talents by putting paintbrush or pen to paper and capturing your favourite Abergavenny scene.

The piece of art may be in any medium and as part of the prize will be framed and presented to the artist during the opening ceremony.

The competition is open to anyone under the age of 18.

The entries will be judged by a panel headed by artist Brian Wheeler, who created the view of Nevill Street presented to HRH?The Prince of Wales during his visit to The Abergavenny Chronicle in 2013 (pictured).

“We’re very excited about this competition and look forward to seeing some excellent paintings and drawings,” said Councillor Woodhouse.

Entries clearly marked Art Competition should arrive at The Chronicle office by no later than 4pm on Friday, July 8. All entries should include the artist’s name, age, address and a daytime phone number.
