POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an attempted armed robbery in Abergavenny's town centre.
An armed robber threatened a member of staff at the Phones 4 U store in High Street, Abergavenny.
He was seen brandishing a knife at around 8.15am on Wednesday, July 4 in the phone shop and demanded money.
Officers have issued a description of the man as white, aged in his mid-twenties, around five feet ten inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark green/blue hooded jumper and dark trousers or tracksuit bottoms and was carrying a dark green kit back which was about three feet long and hung over his shoulder and reached his waist area. He had a mild welsh accent.
Detective Sergeant Rory Waring told The Abergavenny Chronicle, "There has got to be witnesses to this incident because it happened at a busy time of day in the town centre.
"This could have been a nasty incident, thankfully no-one was hurt although the employee was very shaken. We are hopeful that someone must have seen something at that time in the morning and will come forward."
