Cwmffrwdoer - 0

Blaenavon Blues - 4

IT was another Saturday of disappointment for the Blaenavon Blues as they were comprehensively beaten by local rivals Cwmffrwdoer Sports.

The score-line suggests a one sided affair, and although in truth Cwmffrwdoer were worthy winners, the 4-0 score-line flattered the home side somewhat.

The Doer took the lead early on with a free kick from the edge of the box, which was not that well struck but some how found its way to the back of the net.

Cwmffrwdoer soon doubled there lead when another free kick on the edge of the box was fired home to leave keeper Jones with no chance.

The Blues lost Darren Harris at half time with a hamstring injury, and was replaced by Neil Cox. With the Blues playing with the wind and rain on their backs in the second half, they would have fancied themselves to get right back into the game.

However, some slack defending allowed the Doer attackers to get in behind the defence and Lee Wathen's last ditch tackle up-ended the attacker, who then dusted himself down and converted the spot kick.

The Blues finally got the ball down and played some nice football, but with a 3-0 lead, Cwmffrwdoer were in a comfortable position to sit back and allow the Blues to attack them. However, the Blues looked devoid of ideas and could not break down the Doer rearguard. Cwmffrwdoer made it 4-0 with ten minutes to go with another free kick which was not dealt with by the Blues defence, and which came back off the bar to the grateful attacker on the line, who will not score an easier goal this season.

Player/Manager Chris Mason will now need to get his side fired up and playing the football that we all know the club can play when they welcome Spencer Youth and Boys to the Co-op Field this Saturday for a 3pm kick off.

Off the field the Blues held their first race night on Saturday. The club would like to say a big thank you to all the local businesses that sponsored the evening's races, and to thank Ryan Huish for organising the event.
