A DOG who saved it's diabetic owner's life by barking to wake her out of a hypo episode is now being trained to hopefully register with Assistance Dogs UK.
Annie Ransom, 53, from Victoria Street, Abergavenny has been a diabetic since the age of 10.
Since she brought her dog Willow, three, into her life she's gained more than a four-legged friend.
"I was asleep and Willow kept barking. I was having a hypoglycaemic episode, my sugar got very low and she could sense it so woke me up. She's saved me more than once."
Annie heard about the charity http://www.cancerdogs.org.uk">www.cancerdogs.org.uk and looked into it.
"The charity train dogs to alert their owners. They can sense much more than that."
Now Willow is continuing her training to become fully qualified.
She, like guide dogs, wears a collar to inform people that she is a trained detection dog.
You can find out more about Willow and the charity, and how to sponsor them in Cibi Walk tomorrow (Friday) from 12pm to 2pm.
The charity is currently seeking to register with Assistance Dogs UK, to obtain the access rights enjoyed by the other registered Assistance Dogs such as Guide Dogs for the Blind and Dogs for the Disabled."
